Jungfraujoch Tickets 2026: Prices from Every Start, With Pass or Half Fare

A Jungfraujoch ticket in summer 2026 costs CHF 271.20 return from Interlaken Ost, CHF 260 from Lauterbrunnen and CHF 249.20 from Grindelwald, each including the mandatory CHF 10 seat reservation (about US$328, US$315 and US$302). With a Half Fare Card it starts at CHF 129.60, with a Swiss Travel Pass at CHF 188.80, and the Good Morning ticket on the first two trains gives 20 percent off. Is it worth it? On a clear day and if you want to stand in the glacier world at 3,454 metres, yes. If your goal is the classic view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the Schilthorn shows it better for less than half the price. To be upfront: we have not been up the Jungfraujoch ourselves. We spent July 4 to 11, 2026, in the Bernese Oberland, chose the Schilthorn instead, and wrote this guide from the operator’s prices, the timetable and our own week in the valley below. More about the region is in our Bernese Oberland guide.

Jungfraujoch ticket prices 2026 by starting point

Without any travel card you pay CHF 249.20 to CHF 271.20 for an adult return ticket in summer 2026, depending on where you start. The difference between the starting points is small, because the expensive part is the cogwheel railway from Kleine Scheidegg and Eigergletscher through the Eiger to the top.

Start (return, adult) Full fare With Half Fare Card (our calculation) Route up
Interlaken Ost CHF 271.20 (≈ US$328) about CHF 140.60 train to Grindelwald Terminal, Eiger Express, Jungfrau Railway; or via Lauterbrunnen and Wengen
Lauterbrunnen CHF 260.00 (≈ US$315) about CHF 135.00 Wengernalp Railway via Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg, Jungfrau Railway
Grindelwald CHF 249.20 (≈ US$302) from CHF 129.60 Eiger Express to Eigergletscher, Jungfrau Railway

All three prices include the seat reservation of CHF 10, which is mandatory from May 1 to October 31, 2026, according to Jungfrau Railways. The Half Fare prices in the table are our own calculation: half of the fare plus the full CHF 10 reservation. For the Grindelwald ticket this gives exactly the CHF 129.60 that Jungfrau Railways and Swiss Activities publish as the lowest price, which tells us the logic is right. Children from 6 to 15 pay from CHF 30, and children under 6 travel free.

Outside the summer season, from November to April, the fares are lower and the reservation is optional. Because the winter fares for 2026/27 were not yet fully published when we checked, we do not quote them here. If you travel in winter, look at the price calculator on jungfrau.ch for your date.

Swiss Travel Pass, Half Fare Card and regional passes

No pass makes the Jungfraujoch free. The Swiss Half Fare Card gives 50 percent off the whole trip, the Swiss Travel Pass and the Bernese Oberland Pass make the trains to Grindelwald and Wengen free and give 25 percent off from there, and the Jungfrau Travel Pass covers everything up to Eigergletscher and leaves a connecting ticket of CHF 89.

Card or pass What you pay for the Jungfraujoch Price of the card itself
None CHF 249.20 to 271.20 0
Swiss Half Fare Card from CHF 129.60 (about CHF 140.60 from Interlaken) CHF 150 for one month
Swiss Travel Pass from CHF 188.80 from CHF 254 (3 days)
Bernese Oberland Pass 25 percent off from Grindelwald or Wengen from CHF 240 (3 days)
Jungfrau Travel Pass CHF 89 connecting ticket (May to October 2026), from CHF 63 otherwise from CHF 210 (3 days)
GA Travelcard (Swiss residents) CHF 126.60 annual card

The surprise for many visitors: with the Jungfraujoch, the Half Fare Card beats the Swiss Travel Pass. Half price on the whole route is worth more than a free ride to Grindelwald plus 25 percent on the expensive part. Our guide is the Swiss Travel Pass worth it shows the full maths for a week, and the Bernese Oberland Pass guide does the same for the regional pass, including our own week in the region.

The Jungfrau Travel Pass is the one pass built around this trip. It covers all trains, buses, boats and mountain railways of the Jungfrau Region for 3 to 8 days, so with the CHF 89 connecting ticket a summer day on the Jungfraujoch costs you CHF 299 in total on top of everything else you do with the pass. If you also plan Grindelwald First, Männlichen or Harder Kulm, that is often the cheapest combination; our Jungfrau Travel Pass guide compares it in detail.

The cheapest way up, ranked

For most visitors from abroad the cheapest way to the Jungfraujoch is the Swiss Half Fare Card, as soon as you take a few more trains during your stay. Without any card, the Good Morning ticket on the first two trains of the day is the cheapest option, from CHF 190.40.

  1. Half Fare Card plus normal ticket: about CHF 140.60 from Interlaken. The card costs CHF 150, so it pays for itself once you add CHF 39 of other full-fare tickets, for example a return from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen and a boat on Lake Brienz.
  2. Jungfrau Travel Pass plus connecting ticket: CHF 299 in total for three days, but that includes all other mountain railways and trains in the Jungfrau Region. The best deal if you stay three days or more and are active every day.
  3. Swiss Travel Pass: from CHF 188.80. Worth it only if you already have the pass for a tour across Switzerland.
  4. Good Morning ticket: from CHF 190.40, 20 percent off the full fare, valid on one of the first two connections and for the descent until 13:17. It cannot be combined with the Half Fare Card or the Swiss Travel Pass and is sold online by Jungfrau Railways only.
  5. Normal ticket without card: CHF 249.20 to 271.20. The most expensive way, but fully flexible in time.

A tip for couples and families: children from 6 to 15 travel free with the free Swiss Family Card on the regular trains if a parent has a Half Fare Card or Swiss Travel Pass, but for the Jungfraujoch itself count on a child ticket from CHF 30. Check the price for your whole family in the booking form before you decide.

Interlaken, Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen: which route?

The fastest way up is via Grindelwald Terminal and the Eiger Express cable car: 1 hour 37 minutes from Interlaken Ost to the top. The classic route via Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg takes about 2 hours 7 minutes and gives you the slow cogwheel ride along the Lauterbrunnen Valley and below the Eiger north face.

Jungfrau Railways publishes the example of the first train: depart Interlaken Ost at 07:04, arrive on the Jungfraujoch at 08:41, via Grindelwald Terminal and the Eiger Express. The cable car from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher takes about 20 minutes; at Eigergletscher you change to the Jungfrau Railway, which runs almost entirely in a tunnel through the Eiger and the Mönch. The section from Kleine Scheidegg to the top takes 35 minutes.

  • Staying in Interlaken: take the ticket from Interlaken Ost. It covers the trains in the valley as well.
  • Staying in Grindelwald: the ticket from Grindelwald is the cheapest, and the Eiger Express starts at the Terminal station a few minutes from the village.
  • Staying in Lauterbrunnen, Wengen or Mürren: start from Lauterbrunnen. From Mürren you first come down by cable car to Lauterbrunnen.
  • Arriving by car: drive to Grindelwald Terminal or Lauterbrunnen and take the train from there. Wengen and the railway above it are car-free.

Many visitors go up one way and come down the other to see both valleys. Whether your ticket allows that depends on the product, so check the route in the booking form. We drove the Lauterbrunnen Valley several times during our week; how the parking works there is in our Lauterbrunnen Valley guide.

Seat reservation and the Good Morning ticket

From May 1 to October 31, 2026, every passenger needs a seat reservation for CHF 10 on the Eiger Express and the Jungfrau Railway, also with a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card. It guarantees a time slot and saves you queuing at Eigergletscher, but it is not a numbered seat.

The tickets from Swiss Activities already include this reservation. If you hold a Swiss Travel Pass or a Jungfrau Travel Pass, you book only the reduced ticket or connecting ticket plus the reservation. Because the slot is fixed, do not book weeks ahead for a summer day: the view depends completely on the weather. Our advice is to book one or two days before, when the forecast is reliable. Swiss Activities allows free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

The Good Morning ticket is the only real discount without a travel card. It is valid from May 1 to October 31, 2026, on one of the first two connections of the day, and you must leave the summit by 13:17. The trip down from Eigergletscher or Kleine Scheidegg is free in time. From Interlaken Ost the two trains depart at 07:04 and 07:34. It is the best ticket for early risers, because in the morning the air is often clearest and the summit is not yet crowded.

What you get at the top

On the Jungfraujoch you get the Sphinx terrace at 3,571 metres with the view over the Aletsch Glacier, the Ice Palace, the Plateau on the glacier, the Alpine Sensation tunnel and in summer the Snow Fun Park. All of that is included in the ticket except the Snow Fun Park activities.

  • Sphinx observation terrace: open daily during train operating hours. The Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier of the Alps and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, flows south from here.
  • Ice Palace: halls and sculptures carved into the glacier ice, open daily.
  • Plateau: a short walk out onto the snow, with the Jungfrau and the Mönch right above you.
  • Snow Fun Park: zipline and snow activities from late May to mid-October, 10:30 to 17:00, extra charge.
  • Mönchsjoch Hut: a marked trail over the glacier, about an hour each way, from mid-March to mid-October. Only with good shoes and in good weather.

Plan at least three to four hours on top, including lunch. With the Good Morning ticket you have about four hours if you arrive at 08:41 and leave at 13:17, which is enough for everything except the hut hike.

Is the Jungfraujoch worth it, and for whom?

The Jungfraujoch is worth it if you want to be inside the high-alpine glacier world, ride one of the most famous mountain railways and the weather is clear. It is less worth it if your main goal is the postcard view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, because from the Jungfraujoch you stand between those peaks instead of looking at them.

We made that choice ourselves. On July 9, 2026, we went up the Schilthorn instead and paid CHF 115 each from Stechelberg. At 13:39 the clouds cleared, and we saw Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau side by side across the valley. The same day the weather station on the Jungfraujoch measured a high of 8.3 °C while Interlaken reached 30.4 °C, so up there it was a perfect day too. For the view of the three peaks the Schilthorn was the right call; for glacier ice under your feet it would not have been.

Who should go: first-time visitors with a full day and a clear forecast, families whose children have never touched snow in summer, rail fans, and anyone who has seen the Aletsch Glacier in photos and wants to stand above it. Who should skip it: travellers on a tight budget, anyone with heart or breathing problems at altitude, and visitors on a cloudy day.

Weather, season and time of day

Go on the clearest day of your stay, in the morning, and check the live webcam on jungfrau.ch before you leave. On the Jungfraujoch the July average is only 0.4 °C, so bring a warm jacket, sunglasses and sun cream even in summer.

The weather decides everything. In fog you pay the full fare to see a white wall. That is why a short booking window is worth more than any discount: watch the forecast and the webcam, and book the evening before or early in the morning. During our week in July 2026 the afternoons often brought clouds over the peaks, while the mornings were clearer.

The Jungfraujoch is open every day of the year. Summer, from June to September, brings the most people but also the longest days and the Snow Fun Park. In late October and November several sections close for maintenance in 2026; check the operating notices on jungfrau.ch if you travel then. Winter has lower prices and far fewer visitors, but shorter days.

About altitude: at 3,454 metres many people feel a light headache or shortness of breath. Walk slowly, drink water, and come down if you feel unwell. Jungfrau Railways publishes medical advice for people with heart or lung conditions.

Where to buy Jungfraujoch tickets

You can buy Jungfraujoch tickets from Jungfrau Railways directly, at the stations in the region, or online from resellers such as Swiss Activities, which sells the operator’s tickets including the seat reservation, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The Good Morning ticket is only sold by Jungfrau Railways online.

Our recommendation: if you have a Half Fare Card or a Swiss Travel Pass, select it in the booking form, because the discount is calculated there. If you have neither and only do the Jungfraujoch, compare the Good Morning ticket first. If you book through the links on this page, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you; it does not change the price.

Honest downsides

The Jungfraujoch is the most expensive mountain excursion in Switzerland, it is crowded in summer, and most of the train ride runs through a tunnel. Know that before you pay CHF 271.20.

  • Price: for the full fare from Interlaken you could ride the Schilthorn twice and still have money left for lunch.
  • Tunnel: the Jungfrau Railway from Eigergletscher runs about 7 kilometres inside the mountain. The great views on the way are below Eigergletscher.
  • Crowds: in July and August the Sphinx terrace and the Ice Palace are busy around midday. The first trains and the Good Morning ticket help.
  • No weather guarantee: clouds can hide everything, even on a summer day. Booking late is your protection.
  • Altitude: 3,454 metres is high for people coming straight from sea level.

Combine it with the Lauterbrunnen Valley

If you start from Lauterbrunnen, plan the afternoon in the valley: the Staubbach Falls are a few minutes’ walk from the station, and the Trümmelbach Falls are a short bus ride away. Both are places we visited in July 2026.

The Staubbach Falls drop 297 metres right behind the village, and the path up to the falls is free. The Trümmelbach Falls inside the mountain are the meltwater of exactly the glaciers you saw from the Jungfraujoch, which makes them a fitting end to the day. If you prefer a guided day with transport from Interlaken, these tours cover the valley.

FAQ: Jungfraujoch tickets

How much is the Jungfraujoch ticket in 2026?

In summer 2026 an adult return costs CHF 271.20 from Interlaken Ost, CHF 260 from Lauterbrunnen and CHF 249.20 from Grindelwald, including the mandatory CHF 10 seat reservation. With a Half Fare Card it starts at CHF 129.60.

Is the Jungfraujoch included in the Swiss Travel Pass?

No. The trains to Grindelwald and Wengen are free, from there you get 25 percent off. With the pass the Jungfraujoch costs from CHF 188.80 including the reservation.

Is the Half Fare Card or the Swiss Travel Pass better for the Jungfraujoch?

The Half Fare Card. It halves the whole route, so you pay about CHF 140.60 from Interlaken, while the Swiss Travel Pass leaves you at CHF 188.80 or more.

Do I need a seat reservation?

Yes, from May 1 to October 31, 2026, for every passenger, at CHF 10. The tickets from Swiss Activities already include it.

How long does the trip take?

From Interlaken Ost 1 hour 37 minutes via Grindelwald and the Eiger Express, about 2 hours 7 minutes via Lauterbrunnen and Wengen. Plan a full day including three to four hours on top.

Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn?

For the glacier world choose the Jungfraujoch, for the view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau the Schilthorn, which costs CHF 115 from Stechelberg. We chose the Schilthorn and did not regret it.
